Champion TCR Australia Series team HMO Customer Racing is continuing its drive to secure at least one more driver for its 2020 campaign.
The Sydney-based Hyundai team is in a position to run three, or as many as four i30 Ns this season, and is keen to expand after the initial success it enjoyed last year.
HMO was chasing the services of a high-profile driver, however, other racing opportunities have thrown cold water on their abilities to secure his signature.
The team is not deterred, though, and is aiming to lock away its line-up soon to be best prepared for the new season.
Team owner Barry Morcom is disappointed that his ‘Plan A’ has fallen short, but is keen to explore all other options.
“We have been working quite hard on one particular driver, but unfortunately, he is no longer an option for us,” said Morcom.
“We’ve been talking with multiple people for the third or fourth car in our stable, but are yet to put pen to paper. Enquiries from drivers are most definitely still welcome as we are geared up and ready to go.
“Our team has proven how strong the Hyundai i30 Ns are, but we know the competition will be gunning for us this year. We can’t wait to get into it.”
While not confirmed, it is expected that inaugural series champion Will Brown and race winner Nathan Morcom will continue to drive for the team.
The team is expected to make a formal announcement on its driver line-ups and sponsorships prior to the season-opening test at Winton Motor Raceway on February 26. The free-to-the-public test will see all TCR Australia entries lay down laps around the rural Victorian circuit, and fans will be given the opportunity to win hot laps. More details on the test will be confirmed in due course.
